FAQ: Island Lakes Community School New Enrolment Redirection

Over the past few years, ILCS has seen steady enrolment growth due to new housing developments. While measures such as installing modular classrooms, repurposing internal spaces, and adding washroom fixtures have helped increase the school's capacity, enrolment is expected to continue rising. To maintain class sizes that align with divisional targets, 91ºÚÁÏÍø is implementing this enrolment redirection plan for new registrants.

What was decided at the March 18, 2025, 91ºÚÁÏÍø Board Meeting?

Trustees decided that, when necessary, new student enrolments at ILCS will be redirected to Shamrock School in order to maintain appropriate class sizes across all grade levels.

Will current students at ILCS be affected?

No. Students who are currently enrolled at ILCS or have already registered to attend ILCS for the upcoming school year will not be impacted by this decision.

Who will be affected by this enrolment change?

Only new registrants to ILCS, in grades where enrolment surpasses divisional targets, may be redirected to Shamrock School.

Will transportation be provided for students redirected to Shamrock School?

Yes. 91ºÚÁÏÍø will provide school bus transportation at no cost to families affected by this change.

Why was Shamrock School chosen as the redirection site?

Shamrock School was selected because it has available space and is located within reasonable proximity to ILCS, allowing 91ºÚÁÏÍø to maintain a strong educational experience for students.

How will families know if their child is being redirected?

Families of new registrants will be informed during the enrolment process if their child’s grade level at ILCS has exceeded capacity and if redirection to Shamrock School is necessary.

How long will this redirection plan be in effect?

The redirection plan will remain in place as long as enrolment pressures at ILCS continue and until long-term capacity solutions—such as the new school proposed for Precinct K in —can be explored or implemented
